Helping steer JETAA Tokyo in its second year as co-chair, would be a unique opportunity to give back to current and former JET's in the Tokyo area. Over the next year, I hope to increase membership by at least 50%, ensure we coordinate at least one event per month and strengthen ties with three other organizations in Tokyo. Overall, I want to continue to bolster JETAA Tokyo's growing reputation as a professional, productive and proactive group to be a part of.

Steve Woerner
My name is Steve Woerner, and I am pleased to accept your nomination for Co-Chair.
I spent a total of 7 years involved in the JET Programme: 4 years as an ALT and CIR in a small town in Tottori, and another 3 years as a Programme Coordinator at CLAIR. Last year I was one of the founding members of JETAA Tokyo, and also served as head of the Service Committee.

My goals for JETAA Tokyo are for us to build upon our successes of last year by expanding the range and scale of the events we provide to our members, ideally incorporating each of the organization's three pillars of Community, Career and Service. Increasing our current membership will also be key in order to bring in the new ideas and energy necessary to take our group to the next level. We should devote our efforts to both welcoming the new alumni moving to Tokyo this summer as well as reaching out to those who are already well-established in the community here.

As Co-chair, I will do my best to facilitate the most productive sharing of ideas, and then work to help connect those ideas with individuals and organizations that can turn those them into reality. JETAA has enjoyed some great achievements over the past year, and I hope we can progress further towards our true potential as a fantastic resource for former JETs living and working in the Tokyo area.

I appreciate your support and look forward to working with you.

Treasurer/Secretary:

Sharon Bignell
Hi, my name is Sharon Bignell and I was a CIR on the JET Programme in Mie Prefecture for 3 years. After that, I worked as a Programme Coordinator at CLAIR for two years, where one of my main roles was to be the JETAA liaison. This allowed me to understand the structure of JETAA, the activities that different chapters do, and the Grant in Aid process and paperwork to receive funding from CLAIR.

For the last two years, I've been living and working in London and was the Chair of the JETAA chapter there. JETAA London is one of the largest JETAA chapters in the world with over 2000 members, and they are involved in a range of activities, from social gatherings to career fairs and Japan festivals. By running for the treasurer/secretary position, I hope I'll be able to put some of these experiences and ideas to use for the JETAA Tokyo chapter and continue my involvement with the JET Programme.

Career Committee Representative:

Bryan Olsson
I am a former CIR / National AJET CIR Representative from Iwate Prefecture, now living in Tokyo working as an HR Consultant. Meeting other JETs was one of the biggest benefits of the program and the alumni association is such a valuable organization for continuing that into the future. I am excited to have the opportunity to help create a vital community of fellow JETs in Tokyo, and hope to make a contribution using my personal and professional experience as the Career Community Representative.

Sacha Battrick
Since coming on a high school exchange in 1996, I have lived in Japan for 11 years - five of which were spent as a CIR/PA on the JET Programme in Gunma Prefecture. After finishing JET, I worked for three years as a Programme Coordinator at CLAIR where I was in charge of JETAA matters and multiple conferences and orientations. Since last year, I have been working in HR Development at Mitsubishi Corporation.

I feel that my experience makes me a suitable candidate for the role of Career Committee Representative, and if given the opportunity, I hope to build upon the great programs put in place by JETAA Tokyo over the past year and assist JETs coming off the programme and other alumni with achieving their career goals in Tokyo.

Service Committee Representative:

Alexandra Coats
Hi, my name is Alexandra Coats (Toyama-ken ALT 2008-2009, CIR
2009-2010). I have been involved in many of JETAA Tokyo's volunteering efforts during the past year and am super excited about the opportunity to take over Steve’s position as Service Representative for this next year. I feel that as former JETs living in Japan, I believe we have a duty to give back to the Japanese community, especially after the natural disasters which occurred earlier this year. If I am elected Service chair, I will try my best to get more JET alumni involved in JETAA's volunteering and charity events.

Community Committee Representative:

Byron Nagy
After holding the position of Chair last year, I oversaw the growth of our organization from 20 members to around 120. The community subcommittee plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy organization by providing value to both new membership as well as existing members. Managing membership acquisition, organizing JETAA events and networking both within our organization and beyond are all areas where I feel my skills and experience can make a difference. Therefore I am running for the Community Subcommittee Representative.

Communications Officer:

Anne-line Rey
I was a French CIR in Nara prefecture from 2002-2005, in charge of a JET event association called the Nara JETNet, planning about 4 events per year for JETs and Japanese participants. From 2005, I joined CLAIR as a Programme Coordinator. I was mainly in charge of the counselling and PA systems and Tokyo Orientation, as well as the Conference for Returning JETs. Having during these years developed an interest in event planning and communications, I now work for an event planning company, and believe my experience with the JET programme and my experience as a project coordinator and marketing executive at my current job can be important assets for JETAA Tokyo.

Sam Bird
I'm currently working for a small publishing company that produces 2 magazines and as well as handling advertising sales I am in charge of updating our linkedin and twitter presence. I also recently completed a certificate in Branding & Communication at Temple University and am keen to get more practical experience in this kind of role.

Webmaster:
Filmore Ha
I was an ALT in Ibaraki-ken from 2006-2008. I have been in charge of all web related matters for JETAA Tokyo for the past year. I appreciate your support and look forward to continue working with you all.

Meeting Fri, 17 Jun 2011 15:04:28 +0000 admin 721 at http://www.jetaa-tokyo.org http://www.jetaa-tokyo.org/event/jetaa-tokyo-annual-general-meeting-2011#comments May Steering Committee http://www.jetaa-tokyo.org/event/may-steering-committee

Six member of the Steering Committee met on Wednesday, May 11th to discuss current updates within JETAA Tokyo and plan for the annual General Meeting on June 29th.
